- How long will my move take?

Across Sydney, there are many types of properties and a lot of traffic. Your move will depend on where your current house is, where you plan to move and when. From there, our professional removalists can provide a rough estimate of how long your move will take.

As a general guide, a one-bedroom property should take between three and four hours to complete your move. Two-bedroom properties will take between four and six hours and a three-bedroom property will take between five to eight hours. Of course, this all depends on parking, access and amount of items you have.

- What happens if we are late for a job?

Time starts as soon as we get to the job so we won’t charge you if we are late.

- How much will my move cost?

To calculate the cost of your local move, you can take the total number of hours that are estimated for the move and multiply it by the hourly rate.

Our hourly rate is $154 per hour ($140 + GST) from Monday to Thursday and $159.5 ($145 + GST) on Friday and Saturday for the 4.5 tonne truck (20 cubic meters) with a minimum booking time of 2 hours. This inclues:
-Two strong and experienced removalists.
-Up to $10M aud in public liability insurance and $50k in goods in transit insurance.
-Trolley, Dolly and a big assortment of tools for assemblies.
-Straps and heavy duty blankets to secure your items during the move.
– Free biodegradable plastic and bubble wrap during the move on demand, in case you want to add an extra layer of protection to your items
-Live GPS tracking.

We have different rates depending on the services. Please make sure you hire the right service for your needs. You can contact our team of experienced removalists if you have any doubts or concerns.

We have 3 options: Van + Space Mates, Truck + Space Mates or just Space Mates (no van/no truck).

- What happens if there is extra time?

Our standard fee will be given to you beforehand. But overtime is charged by increments of 15 minutes.

So if you hired a Truck + 2 Space Mates, the extra hour will be $140 + GST, but if we just went over 15 minutes, we will charge $32.5 extra

- Someone else has a lower hourly rate, why should I choose you?

Beware of removalists that promise rock-bottom hourly rates. In theory, finding the lowest hourly rate should mean the cheapest removalists – right? Well, unfortunately, that’s not always the case. Sadly, there are some removalists that drag their feet and clock-watch throughout the entire process.

At Outer Space, we are committed to being upfront and providing transparent pricing which means that you won’t be anxious about the end bill throughout your move. Our team will work efficiently to ensure that your project is completed in a timely manner and that you are not stressing about the end-of-day bill throughout the move.

- How should I prepare my appliances for moving?

It is imperative you properly prepare your appliances for moving before they are collected by our Sydney removalists. This involves emptying them of all food or other goods and wiping them down. For fridges, it is important to thoroughly check the interior of both sections, emptying all contents and ensuring that they have defrosted prior to moving day!

- Disassemble and Assembling Furniture

Our teams of professional removalists are fully equipped with toll kits in every truck to help dismantle your furniture to make it easier to move. We still recommend doing as much disassembling as possible before we get there to save time, but our furniture removalists will be ready to help as soon as we arrive.

The price is included in our fee. No Extra charges.

- Where can I get packing materials?

When you book your job with Outer Space removals, you will be able to add to your order whether you’d like to use our recycled plastic packing boxes. If you have your own boxes but need protective packaging, our biodegradable plastic and bubble wrap are included in every move free of charge. 

- Can you help move fragile items?

You bet! Outer Space Removals are the removalists Sydney trusts to move antiques, family heirlooms, paintings, or any fragile valuables that you might have accumulated over time.

Our removalists will carefully wrap each item individually in our fully biodegradable bubble wrap that will provide security throughout transit. We have years of moving experience and handle all our customers’ goods as if they were our own. As a dual precaution, all goods moved with Outer Space are covered by general goods removals insurance up to $10k. However, some customers also choose to insure their items independently with removal insurance between homes. This is not essential but is often utilised for peace of mind.

- Where do you service in Sydney?

Our Sydney removalists service over 200 suburbs surrounding the Sydney CBD, New South Wales. We’re located in Bondi, NSW, and generally serve within a 20km radius from our headquarters, which means that we can get you from the CBD to the Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, Lower North Shore, and anywhere in between. - What are the most difficult items to move when moving a house?

There are a few items that are particularly difficult to move when changing homes. One of the most difficult is large pieces of furniture such as couches and beds. These items can be very heavy and awkward to move, so it’s important to get reliable removalists to get the job done without causing any injuries or damage to your Sydney property.

Another difficult item to move is a piano. Pianos are very delicate and can be damaged easily if they’re not moved correctly. Therefore, it’s best to hire a professional piano mover if you need to relocate one! Regular furniture removalists may not be able to get the job done properly.

Finally, appliances such as refrigerators and washers/dryers can also be difficult to move. They’re usually quite heavy and may require special moving equipment. It’s best to get professional removalists in when moving these types of appliances.

- How do I pack my TV when moving a house?

When packing your TV for a move, it’s important to use the proper packing materials and take extra care to avoid damage. First, gather supplies like bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and strong boxes. You’ll also need a tape measure to make sure the box is the right size for your TV.

Next, remove any removable parts from your television, like the stand or any cables. Wrap those items separately with secure packing materials. Then, measure your TV and find a box that’s slightly larger.

Line the bottom of the box with packing peanuts or bubble wrap, and then place your TV face down on top. Wrap the TV in more bubble wrap, and then fill any remaining space in the box with packing peanuts.

Finally, close the box and seal it with tape. Label the box “FRAGILE” and “TV. This will ensure that our removalists in Sydney know exactly what’s in the box, how to handle it properly, and where to place the box once we get to your new home!

- How do I pack my dishes when moving house?

When packing your dishes for a move, it’s important to use the proper materials and take extra care to avoid damage. First, gather supplies like packing paper, bubble wrap, and strong boxes.

Next, start by wrapping each dish individually in packing paper. Be sure to cover all sides of the dish, including the top and bottom. Then, stack the wrapped dishes in a box, with the heaviest ones on the bottom.

Line the bottom of the box with packing paper or bubble wrap, and then fill any remaining space in the box with packing peanuts. Finally, close the box and seal it with tape. Make sure there is adequate stuffing in the box to prevent the dishes from moving around and potentially breaking! Label the box “FRAGILE” and “DISHES.”

- How do I pack my clothes when moving a house?

When packing your clothes for a move, it’s important to use the proper materials and take extra care to avoid damage. First, gather supplies like suitcases, garment bags, and hangers.

Next, start by hanging all of your clothes in garment bags. Be sure to zip the bags closed and label them with your name. If you have any delicate items, like wedding dresses, you may want to pack them in a box instead for our furniture removalists to take extra care with these precious garments.

Once all of your clothes are packed, stack the suitcases and boxes in a larger box or on a pallet. Label the box “CLOTHES” and be sure to mark it as fragile. Ensuring that the box is clearly labelled allows us to leave it in the bedroom or storage room with your other garments, wardrobes, or clothes storage.

- What are the most common mistakes made when moving a house?

As experienced removalists in Sydney, we’ve seen it all. The most common mistakes made when moving house are:

Not purging your belongings before packing. This will result in you bringing items you don’t need or use to your new home, and will just add to the clutter. As the leading removalists Sydney-wide, we strongly believe that a successful move starts with a big de-clutter to make sure you’re only taking the furniture and belongings that you deem worthy. This will also cut down on the costs involved in removalist services.

Not properly labelling boxes. Be sure to label each box with its contents and which room it should go in. This will make unpacking much easier for yourself and the professional movers that you hire.

Overpacking boxes. This can make them too heavy to lift and could result in items breaking in the removalist truck or otherwise. Pack each box wisely, and don’t be afraid to leave some empty space.

Not protecting fragile items properly. Be sure to wrap all breakables in bubble wrap or packing paper, and place them in a box labelled “FRAGILE.” As mentioned above, labelling is the key to ensuring that your furniture removalists know how to care for each box, and where to unpack them (assuming you’ve booked unpacking services) once we get to your new home.
